Blue Light Block Reading Glasses

What Are Blue Light Block Reading Glasses?

Blue light is also referred to as high energy visible (HEV) light. It may also be referred to as blue violet or violet light. This light has a short wavelength that lets out higher energy. This is why rays that are invisible and electromagnetic are a little beyond the spectrum of light that is visible. Those rays are also called ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This type of light penetrates much deeper into the eye which could end up causing damage to the retina. The retina cells get damaged and that leads to a higher potential of macular degeneration. This causes vision loss as time goes on. When you have extended exposure to HEV, you may experience blurred vision and eye strain.

UV radiation can cause sunburn on your skin as well as sunburned eyes. This is known as snow blindness or photokeratitis. While blue light is everywhere and the sun is the main source of this type of light, there are many other sources. Man made sources such as LED and fluorescent lighting and flat screen TVs. Computer screens, smartphones, and digital devices also put out a significant amount of blue light. While compared to the sun, the amount of blue light is minimal, however, because of the amount of time people spend on their devices, there could be long term effects on your eyes.

Blue light block reading glasses can help to block the blue light from coming into your eyes. Blue light block reading glasses have a special filter that can block up to a certain percentage of the harmful blue light. They also have a coating that is anti reflective to help cut down the glare from computer screens and other screens on devices. Anti blue light lens glasses help to eliminate headaches, eye strain, and other signs of discomfort. They can provide protection all day, even if you are not sitting in front of a computer all day.

While HEV light rays do some good things like help the sky look blue, it still can be dangerous to your eyes. In case it has not been clear, your eye is not great at blocking the blue rays, which is why you may want to consider anti blue light lens glasses. While it is always important to protect your eyes with anti blue light lens glasses, there are some instances where you should protect your eyes even more.
